Astrologen und Forscher die das Firmament bisher nur mit dem blossen Auge betrachteten konnten mit den ersten Teleskopen völlig neue Erkenntnisse gewinnen. Eine neue Epoche der Wissenschaft begann doch sie war geprägt von Vorsicht denn die Kirche wachte streng über jede Abweichung vom anerkannten Weltbild und ketzerische Gedanken wurden hart bestraft.
In Galileo Galilei schliesst du dich diesen mutigen Denkern an. Du übernimmst die Rolle einer historischen Persönlichkeit und strebst danach der berühmteste Astronom deiner Epoche zu werden. Beobachte den Himmel entdecke Konstellationen und Himmelskörper schreibe Bücher und lehre an der Universität um Ruhm Einfluss und Wissen zu erlangen.
Der zentrale Mechanismus des Spiels ist das Ausrichten des Teleskops. Über diese Ausrichtung wählst du deine Aktionen und bestimmst deinen strategischen Weg. Du kannst neue Entdeckungen machen akademische Fortschritte erzielen oder dir entscheidende Vorteile sichern.
Bei der Beobachtung entscheidest du dich stets zwischen Konstellationen und teureren aber lukrativeren Himmelskörpern. Um erfolgreich zu forschen gibst du Lichtwürfel in bestimmten Farben aus. Als Belohnung erhältst du Siegpunkte und weitere Boni. Manche Entdeckungen gelten jedoch als ketzerisch und ziehen die Aufmerksamkeit der Inquisition auf sich wodurch Inquisitoren in deinem Keller landen.
Du kannst versuchen die Inquisitoren von deiner Arbeit zu überzeugen damit sie an Einfluss verlieren. Gelingt dir dies nicht folgt eine Befragung die deinem Ruf schadet. Am Spielende erhältst du Punkte für deinen Fortschritt auf den Universitätsleisten und Punktabzug für begangene Ketzereien.
